description. As the Rancho La Brea landscape becomes dryer, man made fires are used by early peoples easily spread to the dry grasses and dead trees. As the wild fires spread and build in intensity, animals are forced to flea. As they do, they inadvertently driven into asphalt pits where they will be trapped forever. Third in a series of four paintings created to accompany Regan Dunn and Emily Lindsey's featured article in Science Magazine and it's online counterpart.
